By far, my preferred medium when it comes to creating editorial cartoons is, and has always been ink, real ink, the kind that comes in liquid form. However, digital ink offers a flexibility not available in traditional inking techniques.

Have I abandoned liquid ink? No, not at all; but I have decided to take digital ink to production.

With the launch of LeRoy Ink, I will offer digital editorial cartoons produced entirely with what I like to call ‘Digital Ink.’

No paper, no ink pens, not pencils, no roughs scanned and traced, absolutely no paper. Everything produced will be created with a digital tablet and software such as Flash, Photo Shop and Illustrator. I may however, feature an ink drawing for comparison purposes only.

I’ll be using a simple Wacom tablet - the cheapest available, a Wacom Graphire that was purchased at Future Shop for about $50.00. Although more expensive tablets are available, I’m quite happy with the least expensive option…. for now. (The small drawing surface takes lots of getting used to. I haven’t.)
